  I put together a list of the practice areas that Web apps need to leverage these days and it becomes a pretty long list. The Web competency bar continues to climb steeply in recent years, but the rewards for those that do so are potentially very significant.

  Here's my take on Amazon's Elastic Block Store and what it brings to the table to enable a true cloud data center. It'll take 2-5 years but a large part of your data centers are best run elsewhere, if you can find a way to deal with the security, control, governance, and risk issues.

  An interesting new Web service from MIT that lets users share snippets of information about their lives in the form of beautiful statistical graphs. One of the first social statistics applications?
• InfoQ: InfoQ Case Study: NASDAQ Market Replay
  Cloud computing case study: NASDAQ is running some of its market-facing apps using the cloud. Their using S3 and AIR and removing the middle-tier entirely to eliminate the bottleneck of a middleman. Very innovative and an example of excellent Web-Oriented Architecture.
